Sam is Alma's boyfriend.
He was born in India, but had to move to the USA when he was a child. After being bullied, he worked hard to drop his Indian accent.
He met Alma during a chance meeting and they had chemistry from the beginning. They started a relationship and moved together at some point. Alma broke up with him as she was afraid of his feelings for her, but when she couldn't remember this after her accident, he didn't tell her and moved back in. When she confided in him what was going in with her, he was initially supportive, helping her investigate her father's accident. However, he soon worried about what she was doing and, not able to really believe her, wanted her to take her meds, ultimately calling her mother on her, after which she angrily broke up with him again.
